THE SAFE BURIAL CHECKLIST

Before you uninstall
a Shopify app.

An app charge can look unnecessary while the app still runs a quiet workflow, owns important data or leaves storefront code behind. Use this checklist before touching the uninstall button.

1. Confirm what the app actually does

Open the app, check recent activity and ask anyone who works on fulfilment, marketing, support or merchandising. Storefront visibility is only one signal. Email, accounting, backups and order workflows can operate entirely behind the scenes.

2. Map the dependencies

Check Shopify Flow, webhooks, integrations, theme app blocks, pixels, subscriptions, fulfilment locations, customer accounts and exports. Write down what should keep working after removal and how you will test it.

3. Export anything you may need

Save settings, templates, reports and business data before removal. Shopify warns that some app data may not be recoverable after uninstalling, and reinstalling might not restore the previous setup.

4. Check billing inside and outside Shopify

Uninstalling a paid app cancels future recurring Shopify charges, but you can still be billed for the current cycle. Some vendors bill separately, so check the vendor account as well. Uninstalling in Shopify does not automatically cancel an external subscription.

5. Check the theme and inventory

Some apps add theme code that is not removed automatically. Others create app locations and manage inventory. Review the vendor's uninstall instructions and use a safe theme preview when testing storefront changes.

6. Remove one thing, then test

Choose a low-risk window. Test the storefront, checkout path, notifications, fulfilment and any connected workflow. Keep a short record of the change, owner and result. Then check the next bill before counting the saving.

Get the questions before the change
