THE MERCHANT’S FIELD GUIDE
Your Shopify app bill.
Worth a closer look.
You do not need to uninstall half your apps to run a better store. Start by understanding what each charge buys, who relies on it and what would break without it.
1. Start with one billing period
Open your Shopify billing and choose a recent bill. Capture the itemised app charges and currency. Keep annual, usage-based and one-off charges distinct; do not add multiple months together and call that monthly spend.
2. Give every app a job
Write down the feature, workflow or integration it supports. Ask the person who uses it. An app can be essential to fulfilment, email or accounting without displaying anything on the storefront.
3. Treat overlapping categories as questions
Two review or upsell apps may do different jobs. Compare where they run, which products or audiences they serve, and whether either owns data or content you need. Similar names are not enough evidence to cancel one.
4. Compare the plan with actual usage
Check the app dashboard and the vendor’s current plan limits. Look at the features you need, historical usage, overage charges and the consequences of downgrading. Do not assume a free plan has the same features or preserves your data.
5. Test replacements before cancellation
Compare native or free alternatives with your requirements. Back up data and check theme blocks, checkout, subscriptions, fulfilment, flows and connected tools. Use a safe testing environment and get approval before changing a live store.
6. Count savings only after the charge stops
Record the confirmed recurring difference, currency, effective date and any migration cost or contract commitment. A possible replacement is an opportunity, not money already saved. Check the next bill.

App Graveyard turns a billing screenshot, PDF, CSV or manually entered list into an evidence-led report. You review every amount first. The scan looks at public storefront clues, not private app usage.
